Daily Biz Briefs is highlighting individual honorees from the 2013 "40 Under Forty" recognition program. In each of the next 12 editions, we will feature two from the class of 40 youthful leaders in the South Sound.
Heather Schiro-Sturn earned a degree in fashion marketing/merchandising, which might not be the most natural pathway to her career in business finance as an originator of business loans. It came from her decision to work for her father at Schiro Finance for free, initially, until she learned that she loved the business. Four years later, Heather and her husband Ryan purchased the business so her father could retire, and they must be doing the right things. She reports annual loan volumes soared from $38 million to $150 million in the six years she's been there.
Lisa Doyle began her registered nursing service in a hospital and learned her community and the elderly. Having been in Home Health and Hospice, she hatched the idea for a business that she calls Cay Care, which supports elderly persons and their families in the difficult navigation of placement, decision-making and home care. The first dollar earned from her business came from serving a 100-year-old woman, born to a former slave, who sought to have care in her own home so she could enjoy Southern-style cooking. The following four years provided that sort of place for the woman, and the start to Lisa Doyle's business.
