GRAND RAPIDS, MI - The deadline to apply for federal financial assistance is fast approaching for businesses and municipalities affected by record April flooding in West Michigan, according to the Kent County Sheriff's Department.
Kent Conty Emergency Management Coordinator Jack Stewart said Monday, Aug. 12 is the deadline for homeowners and business owners who suffered property damage to apply for Small Business Administration Loans. Those interested can apply online or call SBA customer service representatives at 1-800-659-2955.
"We believe most residents, businesses, and municipalities that were impacted have
already started the process of working with federal agencies," said Jack Stewart,
emergency management coordinator for Kent County. "Still, we want to be sure that if anyone has not applied for funding or loans, that they know where to go and what to do."
Also, the deadline for municipalities requesting funding through the Federal Emergency Management Agency is Saturday, Aug. 17. For assistance or questions on FEMA assistance, contact the Michigan State Police Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division at 888-363-8632 or by email at DavisK10@michigan.gov.
April's historic flooding that month caused more than $18 million in damages across the state, with a bulk of that in West Michigan. Thousands of Grand Rapids-area residents were forced from their homes by a rapidly rising Grand River, which crested at a record level in the city and elsewhere.
