Kayyem starts campaign with $30k personal loan
Aug 23rd 2013, 11:13

By Jim O’Sullivan, Globe Staff

Former Obama administration homeland security official Juliette Kayyem has seeded her fledgling gubernatorial campaign with a $30,000 loan from herself, state campaign finance records show.

Kayyem, who resigned as a Globe op-ed columnist on Tuesday after a two-year stint, on the same day cut the check for her campaign, according to the records. They are the only funds listed in Kayyem’s account so far.

The records also show an outstanding liability for $500 to a Chicago political consulting firm for video production services. Kayyem announced her campaign on Wednesday with a web video.

Adelstein Liston, the Chicago firm, has a lengthy roster of previous Democratic clients, including President Obama, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s 2008 presidential campaign, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, and Massachusetts US Representative John Tierney.
