The channeling of bank loans for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Jambi has shown an encouraging trend again, although in the previous quarter it slowed down due to global crisis.
In a report released by the Jambi chapter of Bank Indonesia (BI), the province's banks disbursed Rp 8.67 trillion (US$793.6 million) in loans for the SMEs in the third quarter of this year, up by 10.92 percent from the previous quarter.
Meanwhile, total bank loans disbursed in Jambi amounted to Rp 22.67 trillion in the third quarter of this year, up by 17.56 percent.
That means SMEs accounted for 38.23 percent of total loans disbursed in the province, exceeding the minimum 20 percent of total loan disbursement required by a BI regulation passed in December 2012.
Jambi-chapter BI head Marlison Hakim said the growth of bank loan disbursement for SMEs in 2013 was still quite good, although it was still relatively lower than the overall growth of lending, which was dominated by investment loans.
"Several banks still showed a low ratio of loan disbursement for the sector. This is what we need to pay attention to," said Marlison in Jambi, on Tuesday. (ebf)
